What Enterprises Miss When Deploying Agentic AI at Scale

It’s hard to believe, but despite the growing interest in agentic AI, enterprise adoption remains limited. Gartner projects that by 2028, 33% of enterprise software will incorporate agentic AI, up from just 1% in 2024, enabling 15% of daily business decisions to be made autonomously (Adebayo, 2025). However, many organizations are still stuck in pilot phases, with 85% of AI projects failing to scale into production (Adebayo, 2025).

A significant barrier is the lack of supporting infrastructure. Agentic AI systems require robust ecosystems to function effectively, including integration with existing systems and specialized talent to manage and maintain them. Without this foundation, projects often face delays, cost overruns, and suboptimal performance (Adebayo, 2025).

Talent Deficits Impede Scalability

The shortage of skilled professionals in AI is another critical challenge. A recent Accenture study of 3,400 executives and 2,000 enterprise projects found that only 13% of AI initiatives are delivering significant business value. Companies are spending three times more on technology than on people, leading to a skills gap that hinders the effective deployment of AI systems (Adebayo, 2025).

To address this, organizations like NTT Data are investing heavily in upskilling their workforce. NTT Data plans to upskill 200,000 employees and certify 15,000 gen AI experts in 2025 alone. This approach aims to bridge the talent gap and foster innovation within the company (Adebayo, 2025).

Post-Deployment Complexities Emerge

Even after successful deployment, managing agentic AI systems presents ongoing challenges. These systems require regular updates, performance tracking, security audits, and alignment with evolving business goals. Without a strategy for post-deployment management, organizations risk operational inefficiencies and security vulnerabilities (Adebayo, 2025).

To mitigate these risks, NTT Data is introducing guardian agents and red teaming agents designed to monitor security, compliance, and operational integrity as AI agents proliferate across functions (Adebayo, 2025).

Financial Services Leverage Agentic AI

Despite these challenges, some sectors are successfully implementing agentic AI. Major financial institutions such as HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, and Wells Fargo are adopting agentic AI to automate workflows and enhance operational efficiency. These banks aim to reduce manual intervention, improve accuracy, and accelerate transaction speeds by integrating advanced AI technologies (Economic Times, 2025).

This strategic move underscores the growing influence of AI in transforming the financial services industry, demonstrating that with the right infrastructure and talent, agentic AI can deliver tangible benefits.

Salesforce Integrates Agentic AI for Growth

Salesforce is positioning itself as a global leader in agentic AI, aiming to expand its dominance beyond the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) sector. Under the leadership of Mr. Perez, the company has rebranded its efforts as “Agentforce” and is integrating AI capabilities across its platforms to enhance customer service, marketing, and productivity (The Australian, 2025).

One notable success is with Fisher & Paykel, where agentic AI now handles 66% of website inquiries and provides proactive customer recommendations. Internally, Salesforce’s AI agents resolve 84% of customer queries, enabling the company to reassign 2,000 support roles (The Australian, 2025).
